sam wants you

I can’t express how strongly I feel that every programmer be involved with either an interest group or a project.

There are a few reasons for this:
  1. Resume Building
  2. It sharpens your skills, as you learn from others
  3. Others learn from you

The resume building one is a pretty selfish non-altruistic one. But it’s true. You also can pick up a lot, that you otherwise wouldn’t, just by being around people who are into tech. You also keep your skills fresh by constantly working on projects. I know that things that I once knew well enough to put on my resume, I”ve taken off. It’s been so long since I’ve worked with some technologies that I wouldn’t be able to answer any questions about them.  People can also learn from you, no matter how much or little you bring to the table.

Here’s a small list of groups that I can think of, and yes, open source projects definitely count! They broaden your skills and look great to potential employers!
